What Is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist?
In 2002, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), in collaboration with its research center 50+ Housing Council, the AARP, and Home Innovation Research Labs developed the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists (CAPS) program. Through a series of training seminars, participants in the program are taught strategies and techniques for designing and building aesthetically enriching barrier-free living environments. Since its inception, more than 2,200 individuals have completed the program, thereby acquiring the skillsets they need to make home modifications to help seniors continue to live independently and safely in their own homes.
Experts Committed to Providing the Best for Seniors
Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists can provide solutions to common obstacles that make houses unsafe or uncomfortable, but their services go far beyond design. They also address:
- Codes and standards
- Common remodeling expenditures and projects
- Product ideas
- Resources needed to provide comprehensive and practical aging-in-place solutions
Every CAPS graduate pledges to uphold a code of ethics and is required to maintain their designation by attending continuing education programs and participating in community service. All of this is done to protect the consumer in general and the senior population in particular.
